Nakia L. Cook is the author of My Hijab is Puffy. She started writing this book in 2012 when she first started her literary journey.
Since then, the book has seen many iterations and a couple of different illustrators.
Her eldest child showed an aptitude toward drawing and shared that passion with her daughter, Sumayyah Syed, when she was just eleven-years-old.
Since then, she has honed her craft and taken on the job as illustrator. Together, the mother-daughter duo is Pearls of Jannah Press.
It is their goal to create inspiring picture books with diverse characters for Muslim youth, as well as the broad spectrum of readers who may be curious about Muslims but are too shy to ask questions.
